Biography

At PHI Pilates, Dr. Christine Romani-Ruby engages her clients and students in the study of movement. Chrissy enjoys sharing her expertise with clients that may be recovering from an injury and with teachers learning to teach movement. Her studio in Pittsburgh’s motto is “The Study of Movement.” For over 10 years, clients have been going to Phi Pilates Studio to study their movement and improve their life experience through movement. Teachers in training have been coming to hone their skills in screening and instruction so that they can improve movement in their clients.
An internationally-renowned presenter, Chrissy has a strong background in both teaching and movement with a Doctoral degree in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Masters degree in Physical Therapy from Slippery Rock University, a Certificate of Athletic Training from West Chester University, and Bachelors degrees in both Natural and Exercise Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is also certified as a Pilates instructor by the Pilates Method Alliance. She has authored 6 books and 18 DVD’s and founded PHI Pilates that is both a studio and a Pilates teacher training school for fitness and rehabilitation professionals. The school has branches in the United States, Japan, and South Korea.
Chrissy has published in journals and magazines and presents internationally on the subject of Pilates for wellness and rehabilitation. Her clinical experience spans 25 years as a physical therapist and she has worked with clients ranging from young children to professional athletes.
With 25 years of clinical experience as a physical therapist, Chrissy is an expert in movement and she specializes in movement issues of the spine. She has created the YUR BACK program, a unique program of exercise for those recovering from back pain that can be done at home or with a licensed YUR BACK instructor. The program is matched to the client’s condition and offers an exercise program that can be performed without risking further injury or pain. Many clients never return to an active lifestyle after back pain because of fear of re-injury. The YUR BACK program takes the fear out of returning to movement and teaches more effective movement patterns.
In addition to running her own studio and school, Dr. Romani-Ruby is an Associate Professor in the Exercise Science and Sport Studies Department at California University of Pennsylvania.
