Biography

An innovator in the cosmetic surgery field, Harvey “Chip” Cole, III, MD, FACS, has performed more than 18,000 surgeries since opening Atlanta’s Oculus Plastic Surgery in 1994. An early pioneer of many techniques that have since become part of the medical mainstream, Dr. Cole was a Botox innovator who
in 1986 trained in its use with Botox trailblazers Drs. Jean and Alastair Carruthers. In 1992, he gained vital early information regarding the cosmetic applications of lasers while learning from laser pioneer Dr. Sterling Baker. A groundbreaker in his own right, Dr. Cole has advanced the use of less invasive endoscopic surgery with minimal incisions, combining laser resurfacing, in his patented brow-lifting ABC technique.
Quadruple board certified by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Board of Ophthalmology, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, and the American Board of Laser Surgery, Dr. Cole has also taught at some of the country’s most prestigious medical institutions, including Harvard Medical School, UCLA, Stanford University, Cleveland Clinic, Tulane University, Emory University, and Vanderbilt Medical School. He serves as an invited board examiner for the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the World Board of Cosmetic Surgery. He completed his ophthalmic surgical residency at Tulane, which was followed by a prestigious two-year fellowship in Oculo Facial Plastic Surgery at Vanderbilt, where he received the specialty’s highest honor, the Marvin H. Quickert Award. He now serves as a facial plastic surgery preceptor for both Vanderbilt and the Medical College of Georgia.
Among his many professional honors, Dr. Cole was named one of America’s top facial plastic surgeons by the Consumers Research Council of America for the past 18 consecutive years. He received the Southern Medical Association’s Most Outstanding Research Award; the C.S. O’Brien Professorship; and the American College of Surgeons’ Golden Scalpel Achievement Award for surgical excellence. As a multiple board certified Ophthalmic Microsurgeon, Dr. Cole combines his expertise in highly refined millimeter-precise eye surgeries with his work as a facial plastic surgeon, offering an even greater degree of precision and knowledge to his surgical practice.
He has been an invited medical expert on Fox, CNN, ABC, NBC, Good Day Atlanta, and several regional and national radio shows. In Town & Country, he has been named by his physician peers as one of the country’s top cosmetic surgeons and by Harper’s Bazaar as one of the top 10 cosmetic eye surgeons in the nation.

Dr. Cole has coauthored over a dozen medical books, has been invited to give numerous keynote-presentation speeches, and has given over 100 lectures around the world as an educator and surgical pioneer in his medical field. He attended Tulane Medical School, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class; he then did his surgical internship at Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, where he was chosen Intern of the year.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Cole is also the founder of the nonprofit FaceChange, which helps troubled teens.
